The AGN Paradigm: Radio-Quiet Objects
نویسنده
چکیده
The current paradigm for radio-quiet AGNs is reviewed, taking into account new results from recent large-scale surveys carried out from the ground and from space. Topics include structure of the central engine, AGN demography, fueling/triggering processes, and connection between the supermassive black hole, host galaxy, circumnuclear starburst and AGN. Dependences on AGN power and lookback time are pointed out in the discussion. Suggestions for future avenues of research are mentioned in the last section.

AGN Zoo and Classications of Active Galaxies
We review the variety of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) classes (so-calledAGN zoo") and classification schemes of galaxies by activity types based on their optical emission-line spectrum, as well as other parameters and other than optical wave-length ranges. A historical overview of discoveries of various types of active galaxies is given, including Seyfert galaxies, radio galaxies, QSOs, BL Lace...
متن کاملHerschel-ATLAS:The connection between star formation and AGN activity in radio-loud and radio-quiet active galaxies
We examine the relationship between star formation and AGN activity by constructing matched samples of local (0 < z < 0.6) radio-loud and radio-quiet AGN in the HerschelATLAS fields. Radio-loud AGN are classified as high-excitation and low-excitation radio galaxies (HERGs, LERGs) using their emission lines and WISE 22-μm luminosity. AGN accretion and jet powers in these active galaxies are trac...
متن کاملIntranight polarization variability in radio-loud and radio-quiet AGN
Intranight polarization variability in AGN has not been studied extensively so far. Studying the variability in polarization makes it possibly to distinguish between different emission mechanisms. Thus it can help answering the question if intranight variability in radio-loud and radio-quiet AGN is of the same or of fundamentally different origin. In this paper we investigate intranight polariz...
متن کاملThe accretion history of the Universe with the SKA
In this paper we investigate how the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) can aid in determining the evolutionary history of active galactic nuclei (AGN) from redshifts z = 0→ 6. Given the vast collecting area of the SKA, it will be sensitive to both ‘radio-loud’ AGN and the much more abundant ‘radio-quiet’ AGN, namely the radio-quiet quasars and their ‘Type-II’ counterparts, out to the highest redshif...
متن کاملBlazars in Low - Luminosity and Radio - Weak AGN ?
Typical blazars seem to be associated with FR I and FR II radio galaxies and radio-loud quasars. However, what happens at lower powers? Do blazars exist in low-luminosity AGN or do they exist in radio-quiet AGN? A recent detection of superluminal motion in a supposedly radio-quiet Seyfert raises the question whether beaming can play an important role in some of these objects as well. Moreover, ...
